HAIR...HAIR....HAIR....everywhere!!!

Ha Ha Ha.....what do you do about the hair everywhere?! Well I have good news and bad news.
Bad News: It's part of being a furkid! Sorry! Can't stop a furkid from shedding. There's no way to control it and furkids can shed for different reasons.
Make sure your furkid is healthy. Things like ringworm, skin infections, hot spots, stress, nutritional or vitamin deficiencies, anxiety, allergies, manage and cancer all can make your furkid shed more than usual.
If you understand why a furkid sheds then you can understand how to deal with it. Typically, furkids shed more in the spring and the fall. In the spring, they are losing their thick winter hair to make room for a thinner summer coat. In the fall, they will replace that thinner coat with one that is protective for the winter.
These things will help with EXCESSIVE shedding not the normal yearly shedding that your furkid goes through.
  • Can you give your furkid meds to help lessen shedding? - NO. Meds would be for if your furkid is sick. The excess shedding is a symptom of a more serious issue.
  • What about that dog food that says it's for shedding? - IT MAKES THEIR COAT LOOK GOOD =)
  • I've heard of oils and vitamins that will help control the shedding. - AGAIN IT MAKES THEIR COAT LOOK GOOD =) If lacking vitamins a supplement will help with the proper nutrition.
Good News: You CAN control how much hair is everywhere. Yaay!!!! Grooming is the biggest key here. The only thing that will help with shedding is brushing daily. Your furkid is going to shed the hair regardless if you brush him/her or not. So why not add some control measures to help make life easier?! =)
  • ok let me say this again......BRUSHING EVERYYYYY DAAAAAAY....maybe even more than once a day.
  • regular bathing
  • during excessive shedding:
    • pick up your rugs
    • do the brushing outside instead of inside
    • vacuum everyday....or more
      • furniture
      • clothing
      • vehicle
      • blankets
      • furkid beds
      • stuffed furkid toys
The next question I always get....."What kind of brush should I use?"

Furkids with thick double coats - A rake, such as the Bamboo Dog Undercoat and Dematting Rake to make sure that the loose hair is removed properly. A simple comb or bristle brush won't do the job. They need to be groomed daily if possible. These breeds would be part of the herding, working and sporting groups, such as, Australian Shepherd, Husky, Alaskan Malamute, Collie and German Shepherd.
Furkids with long, silky hair - A metal grooming comb and a slicker brush. The wide-flat type with bent-wire teeth. Breeds such as Yorkshire Terrier, Maltese, Setters, and Spaniels. Do be careful when using the slicker brush though, as you don't want to scratch or hurt the delicate skin under that beautiful flowing hair!

Furkids with short, wiry coats - A steel comb and a pin brush to remove all the loose hair. They also need stripping or plucking and bathing every 3 months or so. These breeds include Cairn Terrier, Jack Russell Terrier, wire-haired Fox terrier and Irish Wolfhound.

Barking On A Walk and Leash Pulling Videos

Happy Saturday Everyone!

I have two videos coming this weekend.

I have come across some questions dealing with leash pulling and barking at people while on a walk. Since I have a barker too. I will show how I have gotten BamBam to give me the warning bark and then I tell him "It's ok" and then he settles down. This is still a working process for him so you'll really get to see how I've gone about stopping this.

Have a great Memorial Weekend!

Amber Glenn in person

Greetings!

So who is Amber Glenn, Owner/Trainer/Walker?

Ch. Jan Dane's A-Team Abigal
Me and Abby with her winnings in 1984.
I was born in Toledo and raised in Whitehouse.  I have had a love for furkids my whole life. I had my first show furkid (Yellow Lab named Abby) when I was 10 years old. I won lots of ribbons and trophies and that started a ripple effect of excitement. I went around to the neighbors asking if I could train their furkids until I had covered every house. LOL Then I turned to bringing home every stray furkid I came across. I had my own furkid show. I would play (train) with them everyday all day long, my furkids and I were inseparable. At the age of 12 I was suggested as a trainer to friends of family members and friends of friends.

I’ve never stopped training furkids for family and friends and I have even gotten into Agility a couple of years ago. I have received a Certificate (1 year of education) (1999) in Veterinarian Technician and an Associates Degree in Business Administration (2007), Bachelor Degree in Business Management (2011) and a Career Diploma (2013) in Professional Dog Training.

I enlisted in the Army when I was 20 years old and come April 2015 I will have hit my 20-year retirement point, which means free time. Before my deployment I worked as a Project Manager Assistant for Marathon Pipeline. I love the job but I am tired of being cooped up in a small cubical. When I came back from my deployment in February I notified my job that I would not be returning. Plus, I would like to do something different with the next half of my life, something that sings to my heart.

Eli at 9 weeks old
Yes, he went to military training with me!
I cannot only thank Jesus for pushing me into the idea of starting my own business but my loving companion and furbaby, Eli. Eli is still alive and well and living with my best friend’s brother and sister-in-law. In 2012 I got very sick to the point of needing major surgery. During this time I did not have time for Eli and he started to become destructive in the house. I had to do right by him and find someone who had more time for him. Thank God my best friend’s brother and sister-in-law were looking for a second furkid. Eventhough, I knew I had to do it it broke my heart. I thought I would get him back when I was all better and able to care for him again but as luck would have it, I got a phone call informing me that I would be deploying within three months. So Eli stayed where he was. By the time I came back they had Eli for two years. They also had a 2 1/2 year old little boy who was VERY attached to Eli. Knowing what the heart break feels like there was no way I was going to do that to a little boy. After three years of trying to get over Eli I have finally gotten a couple of new furbabies, two Australian Shepherds named Pebbles and BamBam. But it has honestly taken me that long to be able to move on without Eli. It was an aweful three years.
Pebbles at 8 weeks
BamBam at 12 weeks

BamBam and Pebbles

I am very big on helping my community and taking care of others. Realizing that my ordeal with Eli is very common among others I wanted to do something so that no one had to go through what I did. This is how Mission Pawzible came about. I want to be there for others to help them take care of their furkids. Sometimes our lifestyles get a bit busy and it’s the furkid that gets pushed to the side. Now no one has to feel bad about the furkid taking a back seat to the kid’s sports, helping your kids with homework, cooking dinner, or just wanting to relax after a long day at work anymore!

                                                Clients: (L)Guiney, McCoy & Lacey

Thank you for taking the time to read my short bio. I look forward to meeting you soon. =)

What is included in your furkids walk?

Great question! Dont ya think?!

So let me fill you in on those things that make me stand out from the rest of us Dog Walkers.

  • I provide the treats
  • I provide the "dirty deed" bags
  • I provide towels to wipe down your furkid when wet.
  • I absolutely refill water bowls with nice fresh water.
  • There's always training involved some how
    • does your furkid pull on the lead - no problem it's innate for me to automatically turn around. What does that do? Teaches the furkid to pay attention to me and where "I" am going.
  • There's always plenty of personal TLC involved in my walks. I get to know your furkid better this way.
    • What is TLC? Tender, Loving, Care.......that includes a furkid massage.
    • Say I notice a bump, ticks, fleas, or a scratch depending on the severity I will either call you at work or leave a message saying what and where I felt/saw something. I usually notice something before my furparents do.
  •  Your furkids walk is geared towards his/her needs
    • Does your furkid have a lot of energy he/she needs to unleash? No problem. We'll do a fast pace walk or even a little jog.
    • Would your furkid love to be in a group of furkids? They can all play and sniff the area together. Your furkid will be with other like minded and geared furkids if in a group.
  • I am not against giving your furkid a couple more minutes if he/she seems to still be bottled up.
  • Everyone likes report cards. Let me keep you in touch with how things went on our walk.
  • I will have a monthly newsletter with hints, tips, tricks and much more.
  • There will be times when my videographer will be with me. She can take pictures so I can send them to you.
  • I have Loyalty Cards your 10th walk is on me!! I know! Pretty cool, huh?! =)
  • I am not some fly by night walker or trainer who thought to do this on a whim.  I have 30 yrs experience in Positive Reinforcement. I'm starting my own business because I retire from the military April 2015. I gave my life to my Country for 20 yrs now it's time for me to do something that I have always wanted to do.
  • If you look at my Blog you can see I am truely here to help furparent(s) out with their furkid(s).
  • In my new comers packets I have References and anyone at anytime can request them from me.
  •  I also have a gift for new comers too =)
  • I am a certified dog trainer and have been since 2000. I regularly attend webinars/seminars to keep myself updated on changes and new things released.
  • I am also ensured and bonded for dog walking and dog training.

Thank you for your time. Hope to hear from you soon! =)

BamBam & Pebbles

BamBam and Pebbles had their first experience in Grandma and Grandpa's pond. Boy, did they love it. The bath? Not so much. LOL

Poor Pebbles looks like a skinny, wet rat. Ha Ha Ha Ha

Dewey - New Client

Since Dewey can't be with other furkids we get to do selfies. For an old man (11yrs) he sure does get excited when he sees me at the door. I just love it! I think I like just reaching my hand down and petting him. Yes! Hes that tall LOL

We had to stop on our walk for a photo shoot. =)

Crying At Bedtime

So what do you do to get your new puppy to be quite at bedtime?

Something that you need to understand when you first bring your puppy home......THIS IS THE FIRST TIME BEING ALONE AT NIGHT! You just took your puppy away from the only thing it has known his/her whole life. Your puppy is scare, lonely, and unsure of what is going on. A puppy doesn't whine when they feel secure and safe. You need to give your puppy time to get to know it's new "pack". Ease them into all these new rules, smells, people and sights.
Pack animals sleep together. Putting your puppy in one room and you sleeping in another is going to cause your puppy to cry out looking for you and he/she is wondering why their not sleeping with the rest of the pack. NO....that doesn't NOT mean you have to put them in bed with you! LOL At night his/her cage needs to be in your room or if your comfortable with it...put his/her cage in your child's room.

I would like to introduce you to Pebbles & BamBam. Pebbles is now 17weeks and BamBam is now 21weeks.
BamBam left, Pebbles right

I got BamBam first and he was already trained to like his cage. Too keep BamBam from feeling comfortable to go potty in his cage, I used the divider that came with the cage, to give him just enough room to lay down and get comfy.
  •  First night - I got my pillow and blanket and laid down next to the cage with him in it. He was content, quite and fell asleep in no time.
  • Second night - I moved a couple of feet away from the cage. Again he was content and fell asleep quietly.
  • Third night - I moved even farther away. He is still able to see you at this point and should be comfortable with you being at this distance away from him/her.
  • Fourth night - I moved farther away and he could see my pillow but not me. At first he gave a little whine but I gave a "shhh" and he quieted down and went to sleep. He just needed to know that I was there.
  • Fifth night - I moved his cage into the bedroom and slept in my own bed! =)  He gave me a whimper but I told him it was alright. He settled down and went to sleep.
I did the same thing with Pebbles 3 weeks later when I got her. It was must easier and didn't take as long because her cage was next to BamBam's. I gave it 3 days of me sleeping next to the cage. Not because she was scared or lonely but to let her know I am part of the pack too.

I hope this helps you and you can fully enjoy all that puppy love day and night! =)

Any questions....please feel free to leave your questions on here or you can email me at: missionpawzible@gmail.com

Summer Time Tips

HEAT STROKE
Heat stroke occurs when your furkid’s body temperature rises dangerously high. It is most common when furkids are left in a car for too long, or when they exercise in the heat. Never leave your furkid in the car in hot weather, and always remember that a cracked window is not enough to cool a car. Your furkid always needs access to shade outside. Muzzling interferes with a furkid's ability to cool itself by panting and should be avoided.

DEHYDRATION
Prevent dehydration by providing your furkid with access to fresh and cool water both indoors and outside at all times. Ice cubes are a great way to encourage your furkid to take in more fluids and help keep it cool. You can also feed your furkid wet furkid food during the summer to increase its fluid intake.

BURNED FOOT PADS
Sidewalk, patio, street, sand. and other surfaces can burn your furkid’s footpads. Press your hand onto surfaces for 30 seconds to test them before allowing your furkid to walk on them. If it is painful for you, it will be painful for your furkid.

PARASITES
Ticks, fleas, mosquitoes, flies, and other insects are at their peak during the summer months. Talk to your veterinarian about appropriate protection such as collars, sprays, shampoos, dips, and other products. Some heartworm now covers fleas and various types of worms.

CAMPFIRES & BARBECUES
Your furkid may try to take burning sticks from the fire, which maybe hard to get back from him/her  since they think that you are playing when you chase them. Food that is stuck to barbecues after cooking can tempt your furkid to lick the barbecue and burn its tongue or mouth. Keep your furkid away from barbecues and campfires unless it is on a very short leash.

SEASONAL ALLERGIES
Fleas, mold, flowers, and other potential allergens are common during summer. Allergies cause itching, coughing, sneezing, discomfort, and other problems for your furkid. Keep your furkid away from allergy triggers when possible, especially if you know it has a particular allergy. Ask your veterinarian about whether your furkid would benefit from a canine antihistamine or other medication.
IN HOME DOG TRAINING PRICES

Consultation - $50
Covers 45 mins to an hour of getting to know furamily, furkid and filling out paperwork.

Per Session - $60 1hr
The training knowledge of the furparent will not require a package. This is the furparent choice.

Package - $240 - 6 weeks/1hr a week
Sessions are in your home. This package is for furparents that have little to no training knowledge or would just like a little extra assistance.

FURKID WALKING PRICES

Consultation - 45mins - $10
This is where you, your furkid and I get to know each other. I will have my furkids in my vehicle and your furkid will be tested to ensure there will NOT be any aggression towards other furkids, unless you have stated that your furkid is aggressive towards other furkids. I will also go over the paperwork that needs filled out, the Handbook and the Contract.

Pawz-ercise - 30mins - $20
This is a walk within your neighborhood with the rest of the pack from your neighborhood. This gives your furkid a chance to stretch, be around other furkids and play with them. A walk with the pack also provides for a good outlet of their bundled up energy. The different sights and smells will satisfy your furkids curiosity and work their brain. Staying in the house all day long does not challenge your furkid and they can become bored. Walk after walk watch your furkid become a calmer or peaceful furkid. =)
  • Any furkid that needs to be walked alone add $5.
  • If you have more than 1 furkid I will give you a 50% discount....add only $10.
  • If you request my services on a holiday add $5
 Pawz-afari - 60mins - $33
This is a walk at the local park with the pack. It gives your furkid different scenery to look at and some different smells to stimulate their brain. Gives a nice change up of the house and his/her neighborhood. A furkid likes to be challenged and see new things and this is the perfect way to get that curiosity out so they don't get curious at home! If you know what I mean!! *wink wink*

WALKING AGGRESSIVE FURKIDS PRICES

In no way will I allow harm to come to a furkid because of furkid-furkid aggression. Just because a furkid has furkid-furkid aggression does NOT mean that they do not require that same things as every other non-aggressive furkid. I will walk your aggressive furkid separately. Your furkid will be required to wear a muzzle that you will provide. I WILL NOT WALK A FURKID AGGRESSIVE TOWARDS PEOPLE! Sorry....but safety first!

Pawz-ercise - 30mins - $25
This is a walk within your neighborhood.

Pawz-afari - 60mins - $40
This is a walk at the local park.

UNSATISFACTORY WEATHER PRICES

TOO HOT - 10-15min - $10
If the weather is too hot for a 30/60min walk I can still come by your home to let your furkid out. This would be a quick 10-15min walk to relieve his/her self and get a good stretch outside. A 10-15min walk is enough to go around the block once.

TOO COLD - 10-15min - $10
Same as for the too hot weather. Depending on the severity of the cold we can take a fast paced walk around the block. This will provide for potty break, a good stretch, different scenery, and get rid of some energy.

RAIN & SNOW - 10-15min - $10
If there is heavy rain the day of your appointment I will still come let your furkid out to go potty, get a stretch in and let him/her sniff around a bit. Please have a towel prepared so I can dry your furkid off when we come in.
Heavy snow can become a big deal (especially this year! LOL). I will still come let your furkid just as if it was rain that was the issue. Again please have a towel prepared so I can dry them off.

INSIDE PLAY - 10-15min - $10
Dont want your furkid out in the above weather.....NO PROBLEM! Let's have a play and TLC session inside. I can let them out real quick to go potty, toss a ball, play tug-of-war, give them a brushing, or the good ole fashion belly rub with some hugs and kisses.
